We love cool projects and we LOVE to be apart of uber cool projects. Project Share The Love was created with a vision from the big man upstairs to one of our great friends, hence we had a first hand look at how it came about. From a vision while in the shower, and realizing that the big man has spoken to actually building up the nerve to do something about it, was a challenge in itself. But non the less Miss Sarah Woo managed it. And with the help of getting a few of us onboard the love express, we were loving the things that this little group was doing!

We started with little things like giving out candy, buying someone a meal, shouting a coffee, to writing love and encouraging notes, leaving post-it notes in the magazines and books in boarders to our latest advanture. Handing out balloons on the streets.

As a creative, creativity is essential. As a photographer, it’s needed even more. Let me make something clear right from the get go. Photography isn’t about what kinda expensive gear or high end lens you have (they do help mind you..), it’s about what you do with the gear that you DO have. Be it a kit lens, or a 50mm. Add a tad of creativity, and you’ll be on your way to great photography. Period.

I personally shoot with a Nikon D700. And my partners, all 3 of them shoots with a Nikon D90. So as you can see, we don’t have high end gears. But what we do have is creativity.

A lot of people might not get the meaning of a photowalk nor the point of it. But I reckon as a photographer, this is where most of your ideas comes from. All those crazy ones that is. On a photowalk, well, on ours that is, we tend to forget all the technical things about photography. We pick up a camera, and just point it where we want it. But the most important ingredient of a photowalk?

Is company. Location doesn’t really matter because as a photographer there should be at least 10 creative shots you can take where ever you are now. My hero Chase Jarvis taught me that. So where did we end up going?

As a creative, we all need a place to call our own. A place that we hide in, a place that inspire us. To most people this might be a special cafe, a nice garden or park. Or even at work. To me, (yes. I’m letting you guys in to my world now). It’s a number of places. Being in Melbourne there’s heaps of cool Cafes such as St Ali’s, Journal, 1000thousandbendcafe, Brood Box, Brother Baba Budan, Giraffe Cafe for a creative to hang out and work. For me, I find myself most inspired in 4 places. All of which I visit almost daily. There’s the AWP Inc humble home studio where I spent most of my time reading books and some good music. The ‘workspace’. Which is my garage but after a bit of hard work and some help from my friends, I manage to turn it into a pretty cool spot with old school vinyl players, TV, PS2, and all sorts of other stuff. Then of cos there’s my online inspirations, TUMBLR!!! But that’s not what I wanna show you today…

Today I wanna show you my workstation. Well, this is basically it. I know it’s not a lot to work with now, but we do long for the day to have a studio/gallery/office one day in the near future. But for now, this will do.

As some of you might know, AWP Inc’s very own event organizer Miss Sarah Woo bought her very own DSLR before coming back to Melbourne this year. It was a joy-est occasion and we decided to celebrate it by going out for coffee and a photowalk.

To be honest, this was one of those epic nights. It’s been awhile since I’ve started AWP Inc that I’ve went out and enjoy myself without thinking about the photos I’m taking or the technical side of photography. Last night was one of those nights. I just let go, and enjoyed a childhood fantasy of mine, ice skating! Growing up in Malaysia means I never got to see snow, and the closest thing to ice skating was inline skating which I did a fair bit back then… especially each time after I watch the Mighty Ducks.

It was a dream to be ice skating back in the day. Even when I got to Melbourne, the only place you could ice skate was in Oakleigh in a DODGY rink. But THANK GOD for the Ice house!

Well, it is chinese new year right now and to be honest, being in Melbourne means it’s not a big deal. Heck, it’s not even a small deal. The first day was spend at church and then walking around the city alone with my camera and a lensbaby (More on that soon). So our lovely friend Hannah just decided lets have a steamboat party! All these shots are unedited in photoshop or what so ever program people use these days. It was back to basics. A film Leica R4s camera with a few rolls of 35mm film.

A few outings later + a night of walking around the city alone later… These were the results. I should explain that the grains/dots are not from the film but from the scanner I borrowed from a friend. It might be a little dusty but over all it kinda add a little more ‘feel’ to it don’t you think?

Toby & Nicole’s wedding was sort of a surprise to us. But it was a truely God sent one. We were a little worried that in February we won’t have enough jobs to push through, and bad thoughts started coming through our heads. But on tuesday night at creative discipleship, I decided to leave everything up to God. Letting Him take control. Knowing for a fact that He will provide no matter what. Hello and behold, half way thru discipleship we got a call and it was about shooting Toby & Nicole’s wedding the next day! And not only that, the rest of the discipleship just went OFF! First one of the year and we can so see the great things that God is going to use us to do this year.

On to the wedding. It was a chinese wedding. Just a small and intimate one at that. just close families and close friends. And I have to say, shooting these guys were one of the easiest thing I have done. The connection and their love for each other just jumps out at you… It was such and honour and pleasure to shoot the couple and the whole family for that matter.

I had a chance to shoot a friend of ours who recently won’t a radio award. “People’s Choice” I think it was for one of this song. So they radio station gave him a recording deal to record a single. He got in touch with me wanting to get some photos done of him for the single… one thing lead to another…

Love is such a beautiful thing. Especially on the most special day of any relationship. The wedding day may be a wonderful experience or it can be nightmare. I’ve learn that everything only works when everyone works together. And this wedding… even thou there might be some mishap, we think it was one for the books.
